The number one rule and an approach that your ex will not be expecting is for you to show them that you have accepted the break up and are ready to move on with your life. This acceptance usually proves to be a surprise to your ex and leaves the door open for communication that will allow you put a game plan into place.
At this stage of the break up its important to think about the way you present yourself to the world. Make sure that you don't let your appearance slip. Make sure you stay fit and healthy and don't fall into the depressed trap that leads to missing working and hiding away from the world like a hermit. You need to give your ex some space and to be honest you could do with the time to get your self together. Keep yourself busy with work or with hobbies you may have neglected. Your ex will appreciate the space and may even start missing you.
